Congratulations on gaining your place at Loughborough University! Now the hard bit is over you can kick back, relax and be happy knowing that not only have you sealed a place at one of the best universities in the country, but also you'll be living in the best hall on campus. Lucky you!

Royce is placed smack bang in the very heart of the student village, with a truly special atmosphere and sense of camaraderie; Royce is renowned for its energy and lively nature and believe me, it's infectious. And when it gets you, it won't be long until you never want to leave the place, trust me!

I'm a fresher Hall Chair, so this time a year ago I was reading this letter myself. And you know what? I envy that you are about to go through it all, and are about to begin one of the best times of your life. My job is to make sure that you have the time of your life, ensuring that you get the full Loughborough Experience. This is a great honour for me, and I would not spend my second year at this university any other way.

As Royce Hall Chair, I run a committee of 16 students whose responsibility is to make the transition from home to university as comfortable as possible to make your freshers experience the best it can possibly be. Each member has their own position on committee, and together they are responsible for the organising of social events, inter-hall sport, charity events and many other aspects to hall life. Royce is one of the top halls to get involved in, and I strongly recommend you do so.

When you arrive, committee will be here ready to show you to your room and help you with any problems that come up, making sure you settle in comfortably. The transition from home to university happens in the blink of an eye, so it won't be long before you are having the time of your life.

The committee and I have organised 12 days of activities and socials to suit everybody, giving you as much fun as humanly possible before it's time to hit the books. Participation in these events is up to you but I would strongly urge you to get involved as much as possible so you make the most out of the fortnight of fun! The aim of freshers is to for you to meet the rest of your hall and settle in care free. Another huge part of freshers is fancy dress and the itinerary, which you can find out about by clicking the "Itinerary" link to your left.

So basically relax, everyone coming to Royce is in the same boat and we've done the hard bit for you by planning the best fortnight you will have ever had. All you have to do is turn up and enjoy the best few weeks of your life, in the best hall on campus, at one of the best universities in the country!
